I heard the rain last night

Sounds like the title of a book, but that is exactly what I did. Went to bed late, we had watched two episodes of "Trial and Retribution" and had a discussion in the middle about the character of one of the characters. I was right, of course 🙂 I woke up about 2 am and heard the rain on the roof, then at 3 am when I got up and walked into the living room and looked through the curtains. The golf course was dark, of course, but there was enough light to discern the grays, the shadows. I could tell that the usual flooding was there, could not see the ducks though. There is a pair that always appear when that area floods and have a great time wading and swimming in the water.

This morning I read an email musing from a bookseller in New York. The silence, the distancing of people, the apparent difference in ages between people who ventured outside and those who stayed inside. The older and old were the venturesome and he felt he was the oldest of anyone he met.

Time is like that, it creeps up on me. I sometimes forget that I am the age I am and “see” myself as a “normal” person and am surprised when something occurs to remind me, like seeing myself in the mirror. Is that me?? But, thankfully, the other also happens, I look around at people younger than me, often by decades, and find that I am nimbler on my feet, much more flexible, and, frankly, look better because I am not chubby or obese, and do take care of myself. And when I do that, I remind myself: Be Humble! They are probably much kinder people than you are!
