Randall House Rare Books is where I spent my all my time beginning in 1996. It is unique and a total escape from the world “outside.” The building itself is a National Historical Landmark, built in 1839 and one of the oldest in California still standing. The treasures that have come and gone through it’s doors while I was there, are unimaginable. The people I have met and become friends with are many. The excitement of the chase: tracking down the provenance of a book, hunting for makers of inscriptions, deciphering signatures and marginalia … The results, most of the time disappointing, but the few times they pan out, exhilarating.
